Every common question about building, buying and visiting a wooden boat at Bira, grouped in one place. For anything specific to your boat, message the desk on WhatsApp +62 811-3823-875 or email sales@komodoluxury.com.
Commissioning
Who can build, how long it takes and what the contract covers are set out in full on the commissioning page. In short: foreigners and Indonesians alike commission here through a written stage-payment contract issued by PT Komodo Galangan Nusantara, and you should allow several months to a year from first contact to keel-laying.
Cost and payment
USD budget bands, stage payments and the costs owners forget are covered on the build-cost guide. There is no fixed price list because timber, size and finish move the number; the desk issues a written USD frame after a brief.
Craft and timber
The hull-first Konjo method, the panrita lopi, the timber triad and the UNESCO 2017 inscription are explained on the build-process, timber and craft and heritage pages.
Owning and buying
Foreign ownership, buying used and the survey referral are covered on the vessels-for-sale page and the design and registration page. Independent surveys are always referred out, never sold here.
Ecosystem and contacts
Who issues the contracts, and how this desk sits under Juara Holding Group, is set out on the about page. To start, use the contact page.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to build a phinisi at Bira?
Budgets are quoted in USD per project after a brief. A bare working hull is the entry point; a fully fitted charter or dive liveaboard costs several times more. The desk issues a written budget frame instead of a fixed price list.
How long does it take to build a wooden boat?
Reported windows are about 10-14 months for 15-20 m, 14-20 months for 20-30 m, and 20-24+ months for 30-45+ m custom yachts, depending on interior specification and timber supply.
Can a foreigner commission or buy a boat here?
Yes. Foreign owners build and buy through written contracts issued by PT Komodo Galangan Nusantara; ownership, flag and any commercial licences are structured case by case.
What wood is used and is it legal?
Bitti, ulin ironwood and teak, joined with wooden dowels. Reputable builds document timber origin and permits; the desk includes sourcing evidence in the materials specification.
Do you do repairs, refits or surveys?
No. This desk builds, designs and brokers wooden vessels. Haul-out, slipway and refit are handled by the Bira Shipyard channel, and independent surveys by a dedicated marine-survey channel – ask us for a referral to either.
How do I start?
